My goodness! National Poetry Month has come to a close and May is upon us! Here in Florida, we are in the ultimate homestretch. I know many schools in other parts of the country start later and so go later, but generally we are done at the end of May. The light at the end of the tunnel has brightened indeed!
Though there are still many testing sessions going on, the ELA high stakes assessments are over with, and we are pretty much in wrap up mode with various units. I’m in the process of adding more resources to my store…it’s been slow going, but the newest one, a unit on Perseus and Medusa of Greek mythology, is finally up. I’ll be making multiple resources for Greek myths and hopefully will get everything bundled together, for a discount, over summer. Hopefully.
Teacher Appreciation Week is on the horizon and begins next week. I always, well almost always, appreciate the free food that is provided by various local eateries during Teacher Appreciation. Last year, however, there was so much proctoring going on that food trucks that were brought in ran out of lunches by time many teachers were done proctoring. Appreciation indeed…insert eye roll here.
My favorite part of the week is when the school offers note stations to the students and we teachers get random little thank yous in our mailboxes; these go such a long way for everyone! I am notoriously bad with checking my mailbox in the office, but I do check it on those days! It isn’t done every year, and two or three years back they did sticky notes on classroom doors…which seemed fine in theory, but it strangely and awkwardly, so I thought, turned into a popularity contest with various coworkers talking about who had the most on their door. Insert second eye roll here.
But, next week TpT will be having a site-wide sale and all the resources in my store will be 20% off May 7th and 8th! Nothing to run out of there! Stock up for the week, month, or even for the coming fall so there is no thinking about it over Summer! I pride myself on creating unbiased lessons and resources that strive to hone students’ critical thinking and analyitcal skills. I want them thinking and asking how and why questions, finding their own way to solve issues, not merely repeating something I said.
Happy May, Happy Teacher Appreciation Week and Happy Light-at-the-End-of-the-Tunnel! X)
Nike and Novah are appreciative of snacks and naps. They’re only allowed on the sofa when it’s covered and only by invitation. Novah was petitioning pretty hard there to be invited up; it did not work, haha. X)
Happy Teaching!
