“And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.” ― Rainer Maria Rilke
Happy 2025! Crazy! December had so much going on, I decided to take it off from the blog and focus on the first Christmas season with our son–i.e. things that have never been and will never be again. But it’s time to get back into the saddle with structure and some New Year resolutions! Top resolutions: Make a lesson a month, increase activity level (I need some weight training besides carrying my son all over, haha) and continue decluttering/organizing.
I started decluttering our house in September, and I am still in the process of going through little things, getting rid of duplicates or things forgotten about and found, organizing for better efficiency, etc. The decluttering kick has rubbed off onto my mom who, recently, presented me with a file folder of my old, school clutter, a smattering of assignments, report cards and notes home that said I did not turn in assignments, which despite a “pleasing” personality, would create the need for summer school.
I’ve come a rather long way since second grade, haha. I had fun flipping through them. I was never an outwardly reluctant learner, but I was never terribly studious either. I would get distracted fairly easily when I was not interested in the topic. In fact this happened up until I left the classroom, hahaha, trainings and faculty meetings were often a concentrated effort to listen. Which is why I think that once I entered the classroom, I worked well with reluctant learners. I liked stimulating and engaging lessons, even if the topic itself was something I found a bit meh, and since I needed a solid foundation before being able to connect all the analytical dots, I try to make my lessons scaffolded and clear to avoid any confusion for both teachers and learners.
I’m currently working on my fourth Greek mythology unit, so my goal is to have it done by the end of the month. Along with some more home organization. I started working with some homeschool children this week, not sure for how long, but with baby in tow because I refuse to miss these early months and years “full of things that have never been.” So the days are filling even more rapidly.
If your days are rapidly filling and you need some no-prep New Year’s lessons to better enjoy some “things that have never been,” some of these may help you kick off this new 2025 season. :}
Happy Teaching!

Regardless how filled, the days are never too filled for a nice morning stroll…or evening stroll if it’s too chilly in the morning. X} It was 35 here this morning, quite chilly indeed for native Florida blood!
Novah says the artic husky in her says it’s never too cold for a morning stroll, ever! But Nike prefers the heater. She strolls but isn’t as happy as she is in front of the little heater; she is excited for cool weather only in that the “fireplace” comes out!
